The Denver Broncos have long been a staple in the Denver community.
Since the late 1950's Denver has turned its conversations towards
Broncos football. However, the Broncos had always been a subject of
heartbreak. That was until 1998 when the Broncos won the super bowl
over the Green Bay Packers. Denver erupted, everyone was partying
on the streets, even the police had to get involved with fans over-pumped
with adrenaline. The Broncos liked it so much that they repeated the
next year, 1999, with a victory over their old head coach Dan Reeves
and his Atlanta Falcons. Dan Reeves had taken the Broncos to 3 of
their 4 super bowls (the 4 they lost before '98). The Reeves years
were like a roller-coaster in Denver, twice winning heroic games in
Cleveland in the AFC Championship game, only to get pummeled in the
super bowl.
However, Elway was now gone and the Broncos had depend on other stars.
Terrell Davis was injured for the season in training camp and the
Broncos hopes of a 3-peat quickly diminished. The Broncos finished
a dismal 6-10 the in 1999 following two super bowl victories. Nothing
seemed to go right for the Broncos all year long.
The Broncos are looking to turn things around in 2000. With the return
of Terrell Davis and the slate freshly cleaned the Broncos look to
return to their thrown in 2000. It will be the final year of historic
Mile High Stadium which has been the place of so many great memories
and comebacks. The new stadium (pictured to the upper-right), scheduled
to open at the beginning of the season in 2001 will be an incredible
place to watch the game. The new stadium has not yet been named, and
there is a lot of controversy over the naming rights.
